Job Description

Is your background in conservation, working with natural flora and fauna? Are you skilled at field delivery and passionate about sharing your skills and knowledge with others?  Does the idea of working across a diverse landscape including marine and bush environment appeal to you?  If so, the beautiful Mawhera is calling you.

 

The Mawhera Biodiversity team is looking for a highly experienced person to join the biodiversity team based in Greymouth. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to lead the Biodiversity team to achieve high quality conservation outcomes.

 

The Mawhera Greymouth District extends from the Taramakau in the south to the Maruia valley and Lewis pass in the north. As Supervisor (Biodiversity) your focus across the district will be leading a small and motivated team working over a diverse range of ecosystems including marine, coastal, large scale contiguous forests ecosystems and other significant natural areas and protected ecosystems within the District.

 

You will have leadership responsibilities including the planning and delivery of our work programmes relating to:

  • threatened species management.
  • ecosystem restoration;
  • animal and plant pest control work programmes;

 

The successful applicant will have

  • relationship management skills
  • project/contract management and budget management skills
  • a natural heritage or conservation management qualification
  • extensive experience in the practical management of flora and fauna is essential.
  • specialist experience or qualifications in either freshwater, pest control or threatened plants and/or species.
  • Experience in operating online system software
  • Skills in coaching, training and supporting staff and the acquisition of technical knowledge.
  • ability to work and build successful relationships  with Iwi, Whanau & Hapu to sustain and grow conservation.
  • ability to work and build successful relationships and partnerships with the community, stakeholders, business and local government.
  • Skills and experience in working collaboratively with others to deliver and achieve conservation outcomes.

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
