  • Adviser / Senior Advisor role providing high quality food science & technical advice
  • Degree-level qualification in food technology or food science essential
  • Permanent part time role up to 28 hours per week


We have an opportunity for an Food Scientist or Food Technologist to join the Food Science team on a permanent part time basis where they will provide high quality science and technical advice for use in the development and implementation of food policy and standards, in particular the trans-Tasman Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSC) and to support international food regulations and trade.

We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is committed to providing high quality work and enjoys working as part of a team. On a day to day basis, you will work on a wide variety of food science, composition and labelling-related topics primarily related to work in the trans-Tasman food regulation system. Your ability to review and critique scientific literature is essential.

At a minimum, you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in food technology or food science.. A Post Graduate degree and experience in one of the above disciplines is preferable.

As this role requires engagement within MPI and with external stakeholders including food industry and consumers, excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as good relationship management skills are a must. Ideally, you will have an understanding of the New Zealand and trans-Tasman food regulatory system; have experience working in the area of food regulation; and have established contacts in the food industry, academia and government agencies.
