Job Description

We are seeking an adviser with a strong agricultural chemical background to join MPI’s Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) team.

The team is responsible for managing risks to animal welfare, human health, trade and biosecurity associated with the import, manufacturing, use and sale of agricultural compounds.

In this position you will primarily be responsible for undertaking the evaluation of scientific data, and preparing regulatory reports using risk management principles for the purposes of authorising agricultural compounds under the ACVM Act 1997.

To be successful in this role you will need a scientific degree or equivalent qualification in an applicable area (such as Agricultural or Horticultural Sciences, Chemistry and/or Manufacturing) and at least 2 years practical industry experience in a related field. You will have an excellent working knowledge and understanding of the concepts and practices for gathering, organising, and communicating information.  This includes being able to apply an analytical framework and quickly understand the nature of technical issues and problems, identify a range of possible solutions (including their implications), form conclusions and provide advice.  You would be expected to demonstrate an ability to operate at the required technical level with minimal training in a short timeframe.

You must have excellent attention to detail and be able to quickly adapt and think on the run. You will be confident and able to communicate well in a wide range of environments, and have strong and established technical writing abilities as report writing is a key part of the role.

The successful applicant must be willing to work at the Wellington office where the team is based.

In return we offer you the opportunity to work in a varied and interesting work environment, contributing to MPI’s purpose of growing and protecting New Zealand.
