Job Description

 

The Ministry for Primary Industries’ Plant Health and Environment Laboratory in Auckland has a fixed-term vacancy (12months) for an experienced videographer and science communicator.  This is a new role at the Plant Health and Environment Laboratory, Ministry for Primary Industries.

Working closely with the science team, the key focus of this role will be to take scientific information and communicating it through a variety of media (still and moving image) for training a variety of end users.

We are looking for someone who has a background in science and film-making, who will be able to take an idea all the way from inception through to final product.

This role will also include other imaging tasks including macro-photography of entomological specimens and possibly other plant diseases.

Key skills and experience required are:

  • Excellent skills in science communication and generating engaging and informative content
  • Ability to generate well designed audio-visual training materials that are tailored to a variety of specific end-users, both internal and external to the organisation.
  • Understanding of visual storytelling
  • Photography/Videography skills, including experienced user of Adobe Premiere Pro for editing.
  • High computer literacy and experienced user of Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Adobe Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of image-stacking techniques for macro-photography and associated software (such as Helicon Focus).
  • Ability to work in a team environment with scientists, in discussing ideas and working as one team
  • Science training (MSc in Biology or higher, preferably with experience in entomology).
