It’s no mean feat and we have a team of hard working and dedicated people in a variety of roles supporting us to make this happen! MPI provides a range of services to ensure New Zealand is protected from biological risk and that the food New Zealand businesses produce is safe for us to consume. MPI’s services ensure that New Zealand’s natural resources are sustainable while enabling the primary sector to innovate and grow the value of its exports.
Our work stretches all the way from the Beehive to the border. Our overall ambition is for New Zealand to be the most trusted source of high value natural products in the world.
Join us to help this ambition become a reality or if you want a career where you help to grow and protect New Zealand in a very real way then this is it. About the role:
This is an opportunity to be part of a significant and highly regarded national partnership programme. You will work closely with partners across central and local government, industry researchers, and communities to protect New Zealand’s biodiversity, iconic landscapes and economic productivity.
While primarily helping to keep conifers in their place, the role will be full of variety so will keep you on your toes. It includes various projects that you can take ownership of and you will also provide support to the Operations Lead around tracking, systems and processes. Add to this some work around good practice and putting out specs and engaging contractors.
You need to love to write and be good at it, as well as being a pretty sharp facilitator. Research also needs to be one of those things you like to do. A good understanding of ecology, or having a science background would be great, but an interest in the information and willingness to learn will make us happy too!
One of the keys to your success in this role will be building great relationships and being highly responsive with all stakeholders.
Skills & Experience:
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced changing environment is a must, as well as a high level of communication and relationship-building skills. You will also need to bring good political insight, sound judgement and an understanding of Machinery of Government and relevant legislation.
Being happy to jump on planes on a regular basis is another requirement, as you will need to visit the regions on a regular basis. Location is open for the right person, but ideally we’d like you based in Wellington.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Experience planning, leading, managing and delivering an allocated work programme and actively contributing to work across the team, MPI and other government agencies as required.
- Project or programme planning, monitoring, risk mitigation, on-time delivery and reporting.
- Thinking strategically, offering advice and services to enable delivery of strategic outcomes
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills and ability to adapt quickly to meet audience needs.
- High-level analytical and evaluation skills
Benefits of working at MPI include:
- Up to three additional (MPI holidays) leave days
- Focus on career development
- Internal opportunities across the Operations branch and organisation
