About the role
Decision makers within WorkSafe are regularly using intelligence to prioritise how resources are used and to support their activities, and the demand for intelligence is increasing. The Regulatory Intelligence team has developed a new approach that incorporates Strategic Intelligence, Tactical Intelligence, Advanced Analytics, and Business Intelligence. This period of change and development will give successful applicants the opportunity to explore new ways of providing intelligence support, and represents a rare opportunity to contribute to an organisation’s direction.
There are two roles that are currently being advertised. Both roles will use the intelligence cycle to produce intelligence products that will guide intelligence-led decision making across the organisation. There will be a significant focus on developing collection networks both within and external to WorkSafe. WorkSafe intelligence analysts are encouraged to be involved in working with other agencies through CLAG and NZIIP of which they are members and other intelligence forums.
The Senior Intelligence Analyst role represents an exciting opportunity to lead further development of tactical intelligence processes including working with decision makers to determine where tactical intelligence can add value. In addition, the Senior Intelligence Analyst will be expected to produce a range of useful intelligence products at a tactical, operational, and strategic level.
The Intelligence Analyst role is focused on producing a range of intelligence products at a strategic, tactical, and operational level to support WorkSafe staff to make well considered decisions.
One position is a three year fixed term full time role and the other is a full time permanent position in a group with an exciting and ambitious future.
The salary bands for the positions are as follows:
Intelligence Analyst: $68,717 – $91,622
Senior Intelligence Analyst: $95,453 – $127,271

- Lead and develop the tactical intelligence function within WorkSafe (Senior)
- Provide technical guidance and expertise in all aspects of the intelligence cycle including intelligence analysis (Senior)
- Support the organisation through the provision of useful and actionable strategic, operational, and tactical intelligence products using the intelligence cycle.
- Develop and maintain effective internal and external intelligence collection networks.
- Provide intelligence in a timely manner to enable people to do their jobs well and make decisions.
- Routinely apply analytical tools and techniques to support enforcement and prevention activities.
Skills & Experience
The skills and experience listed are for both positions unless specified.
- Strong skills and extensive experience in intelligence analysis tools and techniques (Senior).
- Experience developing new and innovative ways of working (Senior).
- An ability to contribute to the development of intelligence capability within the organisation (Senior).
- Having attended courses such as Intelligence for Investigation, Advanced Intelligence Methods, or NZ Strategic Intelligence would be desirable (Senior).
- Good communication skills including both written and oral communication. Interview skills or the ability to develop these skills would be desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and demands from a range of stakeholders.
- Experience completing a range of strategic, operational, and tactical intelligence products.
- New Zealand Diploma in Intelligence Analysis or equivalent experience (or currently completing for the Analyst position).
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant disciple such as intelligence, international security, law, economics, science, or international relations would be desirable.
